The MHD of the roasters
"In the valve bag, freshly roasted coffee beans retain their full aroma for 12 months."
Quote from -FAQ Coffee- Author: Dr. Steffen Schwarz, founder of the Coffee Consulate in Mannheim.
Most roasters assign a best-before date of 24 months after the roasting date, but some also assign 36, 18 or even only 12 months.
Special features of the best-before date
1. Passalacqua Caffe
Passalacqua Caffe has come up with something very special for the BBD allocation.
If the coffee is roasted in the first half of the year (January to June), Passalacqua always awards the best-before date of June plus 24 months, i.e. regardless of whether the coffee was roasted in February or April.
If the coffee is roasted in the second half of the year (July to December), Passalacqua always issues the BB December plus 24 months.
A bit complicated, so here are some examples:
Passlacqua Cremador was roasted in March 22, then the expiry date 06/24 is written on the package.
Passlacqua Cremador was roasted in July 22, then the expiry date 12/24 is written on the package.
Therefore, there are only the BBD expiry months June and December on all packs with the corresponding year following 24 months later.
The whole thing is very unusual for our customers (and also for us). But we can assure you that we are regularly supplied with very fresh beans from Naples at intervals of 3-4 weeks.
2. Lollo Caffe
The principle is the same as with Passalacqua, but Lollo only gives 18 months on top instead of 24 months.
3. Kimbo Caffe
This roaster only grants 18 months for the high-quality HORECA line (hotel, restaurant, café), while the Kimbo varieties for the LEH (food retail trade) are extended to 24 months.
