Nurri Caffè – The Evolutionary Coffee
The story of Nurri Caffè doesn’t begin with a small drum roaster in a little town. Antonio Nurri didn’t like coffee at all—not in his childhood nor as an adult. He only drank lattes... quite unusual, considering Neapolitans drink espressos several times a day, all day long.
The espresso culture in Naples is unique, with the typical phrase for meeting friends being, “Let’s grab a coffee.”
It was only through his job at Caffè Izzo that Antonio dared to try espresso and came to appreciate it. For many years, Antonio handled Izzo's international sales. Once Mr. Nurri acquired the taste, his enjoyment transformed into fascination. From that moment, he not only drank a lot of coffee but also devoured all documentation and theories related to the world of coffee.
After many years at Caffè Izzo, Antonio Nurri joined another small Neapolitan roaster. Alongside Carlo Grenci, he helped make Caffè Salimbene well-known in numerous European countries.
In 2013, Antonio Nurri joined the jury of the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association), a nonprofit organization with representation in over 100 countries, spanning growers, machine manufacturers, roasters, and baristas.
The goal of the Specialty Coffee Association is to share knowledge about coffee and improve its quality.
After many years at Salimbene, Antonio took the step to independence in 2017, founding two high-quality coffee brands: Nurri Caffè and Ambient & Espresso.
We have known Antonio since his time at Caffè Izzo and have remained loyal to him throughout his career.
