Latte Macchiato glasses: A special breakfast drink
Latte Macchiato is an elaborate breakfast drink served in a special glass. Born and widespread in Italy, many people still confuse it with café Latte, another coffee and milk-based drink with which Latte Macchiato shares certain secrets.
The two drinks differ, however, in the amount of coffee they contain and the technique used to prepare them. Latte Macchiato, with its soft, pretty shades of beige and creamy milk, is such a special drink that a proper glass is absolutely essential.
Latte Macchiato is easy to make and also beautiful to look at. With its layers of colour, it will amaze everyone: it will make you look like a professional barista.
The difference between Latte and Latte Macchiato
As we've already mentioned, latte and latte macchiato don't just differ in the way they're served. Latte macchiato requires an appropriate glass and a cup that is more or less the same size as a classic latte. Their preparation and composition are also different.
The Latte Macchiato contains less coffee, around 20 ml, compared with 25 ml for the classic Latte, and prefers very frothy hot milk. This hot milk is poured into a tall, narrow glass, leaving a delicious froth of milk on the surface. The freshly prepared espresso is then poured into the glass, which falls into the hot milk but does not mix with the foam that remains on the surface. This creates layers of varying density, from the darkest to the lightest. Chocolate chips can also be added.
It's a drink that's almost like a dessert, but is particularly popular at breakfast.
Latte Macchiato can be drunk either hot or cold, but should always be prepared hot so that the ‘magic’ blend of its ingredients can take place.
The ideal Latte Macchiato glass
Latte Macchiato is easy to prepare and very satisfying. With its delicate colour and attractive appearance, it's a pleasure to prepare.
It's a smooth, delicate drink, more suited to a cold winter's day or a relaxing morning rather than a hard day's work. It is particularly suited to those who don't want the overpowering coffee flavour of milk-based preparations.
The ideal glass to serve it from is generally a tall one, narrower at the bottom and wider at the top, but not necessarily thick.
The ideal glass to serve it in is generally a large one, narrower at the bottom and wider at the top, and not necessarily thick.
Of course, the glass must be transparent so that you can fully appreciate the beautiful gradation of colours and the perfect layering of the layers. All the logos and decorations in the middle of the glass complete and embellish this work of art.
Glasses can vary considerably in terms of shape, weight and design. From the atypical to the most elegant, with or without handles, regular and symmetrical, flared or not. Glass is a choice of character that suits the tastes of all coffee lovers.
However, the perfect glass must be able to hold the right amount of latte macchiato, so we generally choose one with a capacity of 250 to 300 ml.
A different kind of breakfast
A good glass of Latte Macchiato in the morning is an attractive and sophisticated choice. It's a cuddle you can indulge in at the start of the day, when it's really worth taking time for yourself.
Start your day gently by preparing your delicious coffee. No more excuses, preparing a Latte Macchiato only takes a few minutes.
